Valves Lesions That Impact Aortic Valve Surgery

In the assessment of the aortic valve, it is important to assess the rest of the heart as it can impact on the risk during surgery:
  • Aortic regurgitation
  • Mitral regurgitation - If the LV dilates, there can be functional MR,  which may warrant mitral valve surgery if there is mitral valve prolapse or if the MR is moderate-severe or severe.
  • Pulmonary hypertension - can result in right heart failure and increase the risk of surgery
  • Asymptomatic aortic stenosis with dilated aortic root
