The following are indicators of severe TR on echo (try to remember this!)
Another finding noted in severe TR is the appearance of the CW trace, which is dense and triangular.
In the event of right ventricular dilatation, paradoxical septal motion is observed on M mode echo.
- Regurgitant jet area >10cm2 (or color flow regurgitant area >30% of RA)
- Regurgitant blood volume =/> 45mL
- Vena contracta >7mm (indicator of adverse cardiovascular events)
- Hepatic vein systolic flow reversal
- Abnormal tricuspid valve morphology
- Dilated right heart and IVC
- PISA (not absolutely necessary to perform) >1cm
