This is the Wilkins score for assessing feasibility of balloon valvuloplasty in mitral stenosis. It considers the following 4 features -
1. Valve calcification
2. Leaflet mobility
3. Thickening of leaflets
4. Thickening of subvalvular apparatus
Scoring system ranges form 1-4 depending on the severity of each feature. A score of < 8 to 9 with no more than moderate MR are suitable candidates. Anything more than this would require surgery.
